Off to the Races

So I've been in my new job for a few weeks now! I've been at work all day everyday actually completing tasks and whatnot! It has been interesting getting back into the hospital culture/politics - I am quite certain this is not where I'll be for the remainder of my working life but am enjoying the change at least and want to stay put as long as possible!
I've been moved to IT and am working on some Telehealth projects ( videoconferencing for business and clinical).. It's nice to be busy again.
With my new reporting relationship came a shiny new blackberry curve - records music, video, goes online and all that fun stuff. Always makes for a happy few weeks when you get a new toy!

May long is coming up and the family is hoping to go camping! We've still to buy a tent and sleeping bags and all that jazz but maybe we'll just sleep under my canopy on some bedding and call it good. :) It'll be nice to catch some HUGE fish again...

TehKim is coming up middle of next week!! She's driving from PG to pouce and staying with our little family for a few days - we're all pretty excited!

End of the Interlude

Over the past year or so ( check the archives if its important to you) I haven't had much to write about on the 'ol My amazing wife has been dutifully scribing our daily happenings over on Hmmm which for one - stole most of my content and two - allowed me to be shamefully lazy when it comes to posting. Don't get me wrong.. I really enjoy reading about her take on our life and usually learn something new about whats going on at home!

Work is one place I can fill you all in on though -

It was an early spring - April of 2008 when I accepted the prestigous title of

NE HLN Site Coordinator, The world full of new possibilites ( a good raise!) and perhaps the chance of being busy once again!

My journey started out slow with an immediate lack of responsibilites and no real boss - ( I report to the NE COO and at the time the office was empty and being covered by a contract executive) But slowly over the first 6 months I started to become a little more engaged and responsible for communications between 6 sites and a project team of nearly 70 proffesionals. The start of 2009 brought on a new challenge - Bring those 6 sites live with a new computer system that connects all the clinical departments electronically. Time passed quickly and with each successful go-live I gained a little more respect from the staff and increased my comfort coordinating project implementations. The first 6 sites in the other parts of the organization took almost 2 years to implement but by Mid June all NE 6 sites were online and the bulk of my responsibilites dissapeared!

The last 6 months have been similar to how this career move started - few responsibilities and even less direction from above. I've spoken with the powers that be regarding workload and asked for an increase due to the free time I have. - "maybe try get some more face-time with staff and see if you can get busy that way" was the response. Great. Make-work projects in my mind are as useless as not showing up. I've been going with the latter.

Enough Griping about having too easy of a job!

In other news - I've secured a small group of hooligins to hang out with which is been a nice change from the mostly friendless-days of Terrace. Endless nights of fire stoking, projects and quad racing have proven to keep me sane in light of the sorry work situation.

My family keeps getting older which has good and bad points I would like to touch on briefly.

Seven going on 16 - M has attitude. She also can now skate - build forts in the snow and drive a quad!

2 going on.. 2 - Linden whines. He also really loves playing cars, hockey and smashing things at random.

T - 20 something going on 20 something. - She does nothing wrong. She is always right.

What a boring blog

Nothing ever happens on it...

So I borrowed a 12 string from my Uncle last week. In between that and the pedal I borrowed from Ray..

(Not actual equipmet)

.. my fingers have started to bleed!

From deep thought came the realization that music must be in my life in order to feel complete, so I've begun spending a bit more time with the instruments in my life. I thought of trying to find a local band to jam with, perhaps a weekend gig here and there just to have a chance to perform, but the last time I tried that the cops shut us down for being too loud so I've come up with a new plan.

Ejamming allows you to connect to musicians all over the world from the comfort of your living room. Realtime jam sessions using special software over the interweb! Only catch - you gotta buy a piece of hardware to take care of that nasty latency.
Goes for around $1000 or something so it will require some saving and dreaming!

I enjoy writing in the fall. Reminds me of well.. writing in the fall, which is always a good time.

So we've lived in Dawson Creek for almost a year now; Martina and Tamara are back to school, Linden is almost a year old and I am still alive.

Moving has been a big part of our lives over the past year ( I have moved ALL our stuff 3 times) so we are hoping to stay in this place for a while!

Most of my job nowadays is sitting in my office listening in on conference calls - and occasionally participating. My office itself is not so bad, top floor of the hospital - attached bathroom and big window overlooking.. trees and stuff. No one bothers me, or tracks when I arrive or leave, and as long as all my tasks (minimal) are covered I don't even hear from my boss who works as an executive from another facility in another town.
The unfortunate reality is lack of job satisfaction.
My wonderful wife has suggested I work towards a degree! This way I could at least fill the time I am supposed to be at work with something productive. Great Idea! Only problem is.. what do I want to do when I grow up? I have been having difficulty selecting a 'program' that I think I'll be able to stay awake through. Doesn't school kind of sound boring? I am ready to try something else though!
In my time away from my 'day job' I have been working for a local contractor/friend. We have been building a spec house here in town! I've learned a lot and have been involved in almost every stage of the building up until now. ( just got the trusses on this weekend) There are some interesting/unique things about this particular building project! Working on site is a local architect who has designed the small ( 1000sq ft) house as his first residential project since graduating last year. Energy Efficiency is key nowadays and building green is the game. From potential solar power to an outside patio sliding door system this project is full of interesting ideas and cutting edge concepts. I'll post pictures as soon as I get some!
It's my turn to talk now.. back to the conf call.

Dolly Varden Nothing.

This weekend was interesting...
It started with a phone call,

" Heeeey Pattycakes whats up?"

" oh, hey dude whats goin on?"

"Dolly Varden! Thats whats goin on man!, we're headin to Mackenzie! Pack your SHTuff and meet us at Duders!"

"Sweet. Um Let me call my wife."

" Hi honey how are you?"

"Ok, kids cranky.. been a long day.."

"oh. um. So I got a call from Dude"

" and..?"

" Yea so he's going to mackenzie! to fish.. big Dolly's I guess.."

"Nice! Tell him to have fun!"

"yea so he invited me! Uh what do you think?"

.....Discussion ensue's......

"Hey Dude"

"see you in 20 dude!"

Off we went, with visions of 15lb fish easy for the picking right off the shore of the river. Little did we know what was in store for us.

Williston Lake

"hey.. dude" kiCk" you're snoring"

"mumble muble"

"dude" KicK"Fork and Shutup man" ( I think thats what he said)

"wha?? " - I wake up ... apparently Tamara's not lying about my snoring...

7:30am or something we get up and have a hearty breakfast off Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, toast yogurt, melon, pineapple, oranges and coffee ( with Baileys of course)

"Sooooo, wheoeeeow! Where do we catch the fish?"

" Oh It's about 1/2 hr up the lake if we pull your canoe with our BOAT"

"Yea thats a.. great idea!"

So 3 of us pile into the canoe, while 3 others get into the 14' aluminum with their 2 dogs, and off we go with nothing but a 9hp motor and big dreams.

After an hour of insane waves caused by the boat towing us coupled with the waves from the 200km long lake I was starting to get bored. The water was coming in slightly slower than we could bail it out so it wasn't much of a challenge..... I'm actually quite surprised the canoe didn't sink.. It's a good thing know what we're doing I thought...

The idea was to come out and fish.. but I was kind of tagging along.. in the tag along boat. SO unfortunately didnt have much say in what we did.

3 hours later we pull into the "Dolly Varden Garden" and start fishing! About the same time, the driver of the powerboat checks the gas level. Myeaaa..

" Oh SpIT!"

" we have like less than half the gas left"

"o thats not good.. weather is getting worse"

"Yea we can't pull you guys back hey, we won't have enough gas"

"Dude we came like 30km.."

So we headed for land and started a fire while a few went in the motorboat to get more gas. After discussing how we would survive overnight if needed we all decided the first step was to take a nice nap since it wasn't raining yet. ( oh and in case you missed it. THere was no fish.)

Between naps, weapon fashioning and fishing for nothing the next 6 hours went by rather quickly. Meanwhile the 2 who left to get gas couldn't boat back as the weather was worsening and a tow back up the lake for 30k was out of the question.. They drove over 45km through logging roads and mudholes to get close to where we were. Fashioned a boat launch off a cliff to load the boat into the lake and dropped it in.

The hum of the boat was like music to our ears, they towed us across the bay and we loaded up.

So in the end it was too late to pack up camp that night so the 1 day trip turned into a 2 day trip and we never did catch any fish.....

I think next time I'll bring my own boat...
